Ohr Chaya is a Home!
During these days of the Coronavirus crisis, as we all stay together at home with our families, for the girls at Ohr Chaya Ohr Chaya is their home!
Home. What does the word mean to you?
Nowadays, as the entire world is experiencing the Coronavirus crisis, we all huddle together in our warm homes with our families… But not everyone has a home where they can stay… The girls at Ohr Chaya have nowhere to go home to!
Now, more than ever, Ohr Chaya is their home!
“I have no words to express my deep gratitude. When all of the dormitories were shut down, you remained open and didn’t send us out to the cold, foreign streets. Thanks to you, I have a place to stay!”
Shoshi
Karen, Gali and Shoshi (pseudonyms) are just three of the hundreds of girls who live at Ohr Chaya, managing their entire lives without a supportive family, and now dealing with the COVID-19 crisis as well….
Karen needed to go into quarantine after being exposed to a verified COVID-19 patient. She doesn’t have the option of staying in her bedroom and enjoying the company of helpful family members. She doesn’t have a home to supply her with the support she needs.
At Ohr Chaya, she received a private room and a bathroom designated just for her. Every day, three hot, steaming meals were waiting for her outside her closed door, and aside from the physical sustenance, they nourished her with the warm heart and infinite dedication that stood behind them…
Gali is a young woman living alone in Israel and orphaned from her mother. Her father and sister live abroad and do not maintain any contact with her whatsoever. Ohr Chaya is everything for her – a home and a family. Like every bride at Ohr Chaya who is planning her big day alone, Ohr Chaya are like parents to her, paying attention and helping with all of the details, large and small.
Due to the situation these days, the ceremony was held in the dining hall at Ohr Chaya. The dining hall was lovingly decorated like a wedding hall by her friends. The pure joy reached the heavens and wordlessly expressed: this is a family!
The dear girls living at Ohr Chaya ask us to continue to open the door and our hearts to them. But to do so, we need your hearts too…
